Drum Legends > Jeff Porcaro
Jeff Porcaro is s true drumming legend. Inspired by his father Joe Porcaro a prolific session percussionist, Jeff left high school to pursue a career playing drums and never looked back. He played with countless artists including Sony and Cher, Steely Dan, Bozz Scaggs, Bruce Spingsteen and Michael Jackson. In 1977 along with his brothers, MIke and Steve he formed the Grammy Award winning band Toto who went on to sell over 35million albums. Although he was a very gifted player Jeff is most noted for his 'groove' playing and 'feels' not flashy drum solos or fills. Classic tracks such as Rosanna, Africa and Lido Shuffle are examples of Jeff at his finest.
Sadly Jeff Porcaro died in 1992 after an undiagnosed heart condition was agrivated by a chemical pesticide he was using in his garden. Thankfully we have Jeff's enormous body work to remember him by. Here he is explaining his famous 'Rosanna' half-time shuffle groove.
